Sterling Heights, MI – In a heartfelt celebration of Pride Month, the Sterling Heights Public Library is delighted to announce that the beloved "Two Bears" sculpture, prominently displayed near its entrance, has a beautiful story of love and acceptance behind it. The sculpture, created by American artist Marshall Maynard Fredericks in 1964, features two adult male bears: Bob the Bear and Tiny Bear. According to Fredericks, these bears have always been a gay couple, symbolizing companionship and unity. As June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month, the library is proudly embracing and sharing the true story of Bob and Tiny, officially recognizing the Sterling Heights Bears as a gay couple. This announcement is a tribute to the spirit of inclusivity and love, inviting all residents and visitors to celebrate the diversity that strengthens our community.
