This weekend, the skies over Michigan were filled with the thrilling sights and sounds of the 2024 Selfridge Open House & Air Show. Thousands of spectators flocked to Selfridge Air National Guard Base to witness the awe-inspiring aerobatics of the USAF Thunderbirds. In a heartfelt and nostalgic moment, the Thunderbirds paid tribute to the soon-to-be-closed Lakeside Mall, a beloved local landmark that will shutter its doors on July 1st, 2024. The elite air demonstration squadron executed a precision flyover, leaving a trail of smoke that spelled out "Goodbye Lakeside Mall" across the sky. This poignant gesture commemorated the mall's nearly 50 years of service as a community hub since its opening in 1976. Alongside the Thunderbirds, the event featured performances from various military and civilian aircraft, static displays, and interactive exhibits, offering a full day of family-friendly entertainment and a trip down memory lane for the residents of the surrounding areas.
